Celebrate your special relationship with a dash of fashion fun! There is nothing more adorable than wearing coordinating outfits with your little girl. If you work full time (like me) or the thought of coordinating outfits sounds exhausting, save these unique looks for family outings and weekend adventures. Keep your outfits minimal and simple with relatively the same color scheme and style. You're not posing for holiday cards, you're simply enjoying your day to day tasks together.
For this casual black boho mommy and me look, I made both mine and Violet's outfit. I even made a dress version of Violet's top for my other daughter Makena. But she absolutely refused to participate in our photo shoot fun (five going on fifteen?). That's ok, if it's not fun for them, don't force it, right?
My skater dress is made from black stretch velvet using the Stasia dress pattern from Sew Liberated. I absolutely LOVE her patterns for their versatility. I am a very curvy women and often find patterns do not fit in my bust or hips. Sew Liberated includes patterns for cup sizes A - D. It was so exciting to make a dress than actually fit! She also includes various sleeve and hem lengths. You could make your entire minimalist wardrobe out of one single pattern!
Violet's top is made from a woven black and white buffalo plaid. She even picked out her own heart buttons. I'm so into this trend this season, I had actually purchased this fabric back in December and forced myself to sit down and sew before Spring arrived and plaids were out. The pattern is one I've used in my own Valentine's capsule, called the Blue Tit Dress from Puperita. A really adorable pattern shop that makes both boys and girls patterns and has an excellent facebook support group should you need additional help.
But you don't have to be a sewing whiz to get this look!! I found these same great pieces on several of my favorite websites. Shop the post below and be sure to share your mommy and me looks on Instagram with hashtag #dandgmomandme
